This project is a lighting concept proposal for the MacArthur Causeway overpass located in Miami Beach, Florida. The main idea is to create a light installation in order to enhance the visual quality of the existing space, by day, and making it a display – stage of colorful lights by night.
14 columns paired in 7 groups of 2 are positioned in the proximity of the Couseway following it. The white steel pilons are slightly bent away from the Couseway and connected to it via cables.
By doing so we are creating an illusion of a cable suspended bridge, when it actually is a simple light installation.
Each pillar is rapresented as a solar charger-light battery. By day pillars absorb the light of the sun and generate energy which is later used to light both columns and optical fiber cables connected to the Couseway. The installation is computer controlled and it produces various lighting effects that gently come down the “suspended” structure.
